Hazelnuts 101 - Other Regions
The Midwestern USA has a very different climate than Oregon, Ontario, and the Atlantic seaboard, but one can always learn something from your neighbors. Be aware the plant materials discussed in these guides are likely not suitable for the harsh climate of the Midwest. Also, harvesting hazelnuts from the orchard floor is likely not possible for most places in the Midwest due to slopes and/or rainfall during the harvest window. Instead, Midwest growers are and will likely harvest direct from the plants using straddle-harvesters.

Technical Reports - Feeding Hazelnut to Pigs
Many growers are interested in feeding hazelnuts to pigs as a means to produce high quality, hazelnut-finished pork. A series of feeding trials were conducted in 2019 and 2021 evaluating the growth rates of hazelnut fed pigs and the quality of the meats. The results are shown in the bulletins below.
